BlackBerry Manufacturer, Rumored Layoffs Hundreds of Employees

Toronto - Producer handset BlackBerry, Research In Motion (RIM), seeks to efficiency. Reportedly, a company based in Canada has started to cut hundreds of employees.


News of efficiency makes the price of RIM shares rose about 10%. This is good news because before their share prices had dropped dramatically due to poor performance in the smartphone market.

Quoted by Reuters on Wednesday (06/22/2011), Colin Gillis as an analyst at BGC Partners to assess the actions of layoffs at RIM can help their performance. Local media reported that about 200 workers have been laid off, employees of RIM's total of 17,500.
RIM itself has not confirmed the truth of the news that cuts hundreds of workers. But earlier, RIM is already planning to cut some employees.

On the other hand, had appeared also rumors that RIM would be acquired. However, Gilis believe it will not happen. Although the value of RIM's now down than ever, they still market cap of around USD 14 billion.
